Oxymoronic Ego

ok, so i was learning about the superego yesterday in religion. i had heard of it before, but never looked into it. still havent so some things i say in this post may be off, and feel free to corect me.

well, if we hare all born with a superego, then i think i have a very oxymoronic one. i have a small superego. yes, there are people whos approvil i try to get, but there arent many people. i think i've realized that i only want wise/knowledgable peoples approval. honestaly, i could care less about my parents approval, but there are a few teachers, and one grandmother whos approval i despritaly try to attain.

i try to get my english teachers approval. he is an old man, but knows what he's talking about. i hate english class, but for some reason i feel the need to get his approval. for instence, i will stay up much later on papers then i would for most of my teachers.

i also try to get my world civ teachers approval. i have a passion for world civ. its somthing i can honestaly say im good at. i even feel ok saying im better at it then some people. these are things i can say about no other subject. i dont have much confidence, but in world civ i do. that is the only class i always raise my hand for. i think i do that for 2 reasons. 1) to prove my superiority over my class mates and 2) to gain the teachers respect.

i think that all i can really say about that. i guess this was kinda a pointless post, but it helped me figure my self out a little. Peace!!!

Hi there, Spys

Hmmm... "super-ego" - that's a term I haven't heard in a while. I'm a bit surprised that they're throwing bits of Freudian psychology at you, but maybe analysing the mind that way suits what they're teaching you.

I wouldn't necessarily say that you have a small super-ego - I can't see why it should correlate with the number of people whose approval and respect you want. Everyone around you has the ability to earn your respect by their actions towards you and others. The people that you most respect are the ones that you most want to respect you, whose approval you most want. So, for example, the best, most inspiring teachers: you respect them for their ability to teach, and you want their respect as a student who tries his best. Hence the late nights on English papers, and determination to answer questions in World Civ.

I don't think this post was pointless: if it's helped you understand yourself better, that's made it worthwhile. You've also helped us understand you better.

Take care

Mark

haha to be honest, i was very supriced too because of all of the steryotypes about his beliefs. it was deffinatly an interesting class.

the weird thing about my superego is that my english teacher is perhaps one of my least teachers in the way of teaching. i still am baffled about why i want his respect. now its obvious to me why i want my world civ teachers. if you knew him, youd see what i mean.

im glad my post wasent pointless to somone besides me =) Peace!!!

not strange at all kid... you have a great teacher that is obviously doing his job- he's tapped into that 'peg' in your brain that makes you want to learn... it's different in different kids, but he's managed to figure out what works with you, and that's a sign of his experience and wisdom...There's nothing wrong with having pride in something that you do well... Hell, that's what drove me so much in my early sports career... yeah, I did it first, to challenge myself, physically and mentally, but, I'd be lying, if I didn't acknowledge the high that I got when the crowd cheered for my performance... All my hard work was
recognized!! A great feeling!!

Take pride in the things you do well... Achieve!! Don't be arrogant about your superiority, but enjoy it!! luv, tman<3

thanks Tman! PS what sport?

the sport where you hit a fuzzy ball with a racket thingie and run around like a maniac when the fuzzy ball comes back at you at about twice the speed than you sent it!! Makes me tired, just thinking about it!! lol Now, my Godson wants to learn how to play, and I don't know what I'll do... I love him dearly, he's one cool kid, but, the kind of commitment that training a newbie will take, makes me exhausted, just thinking about it... I thought I put those days behind me some 8 years back... lol luv, tman<3
