so... today is christmas eve day? somthing like that haha. well i got up, went to the mall, and quickly got Megan a scarf. she got me somthing so i figured id get her somthing too haha. now im home and relaxing before tonight. were going to a party. story time!

so during my 6th and 7th grade summer, my mom, sister, and i took a trip with my moms best friend and her 3 kids. 2 girls (twins) and 1 son, gay. nothing ever happened, and i dident even know i was gay back then.

so now, i havent seen him in 4 years. should be interesting haha

now for my xmas rant.

i dont understand christmas. i mean i understand the theory, but not the practice. if people believe in the biblical stories, then they should know christ wasent born in december. if they dont believe in the biblical stories, then why are they celebrating christmas?

the reason it got to be on the date it courently is, is because of a few reasons:
pegan holiday (easier to convert if holidays match up)
brings light into one of the darkest times of the year

im sure there are more reasons, but thats all i know of haha

and gifts for each other? as far as i know, the only symbalism that could come from that is the magi?

idk... just seems funky to celebrate somones birthday on a day that they almost definatly werent born on...

but i still love the holiday! or atleast what its become in todays society

hop ethis dosent make anyone mad, just tryen to get people thinking. thats everyone for reading!!! and i wish you guys, and your families, a very merry christmas!!! (or Quanza/Honica!!!)

PS sorry for the spelling slaughters haha

Peace!!!!!

Hi there, Spys

Today is Christmas Eve - no need for 'day' on the end, just as tomorrow is strictly just Christmas, the Mass (holy day) of Christ. But words change their meanings, and "Christmas" now implies the whole period, not just a single day.

As for why Christmas is when it is, as far as I know it was a deliberate decision by the early Christian church to pick a day that was near but not exactly the same as existing pagan festivals marking the solstice, the darkest (if not the coldest) part of the year.

I'm fairly sure the gifts do relate to the Magi - in Spain, "Christmas" gifts are given on 6th January, which is Twelfth Night or Epiphany, the day on which the Magi arrived.

As for celebrating someone's on a day that they weren't born on, the Queen here has an "official birthday" in June, because her real birthday is in April when the weather is too unpredictable to do anything organised outdoors. Not that there's much celebration even of her official birthday, but that's another matter...

I have a feeling that celebrating birthdays at all is a fairly modern idea, perhaps in the last couple of centuries.

Anyway, a very merry Christmas to you too - I hope you have a great time!

Take care

Mark

Hi, Spys!
You pretty much got it, and Mark's explanation is a good expansion.

This season has turned into a couple of things, I think. One, it's become commercial. It's a chance for retailers to hopefully "make" the year. I'm sure you've noticed that the hype now starts early in November. For many people, giving gifts, whatever the symbolism, is the reason for the season. My family has pretty much quit with the gifts. We just enjoy time together, since we're all geographically separated and don't get together very often. Two, it's a religious season. It's true that most Biblical scholars believe that Jesus was born nearer to March, and yes, conversion of "lesser religions" to your new-fangled one is much easier when you simply appropriate the existing festivals and celebrations whenever possible. Then of course, you have the politically correct crowd who think we should just celebrate the "holidays" and the equally vocal group that insists you HAVE to use Christmas as the reason for the season.

Personally, I'd just love to see everyone spend at least a short period of time loving one another - no matter if you say Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas or use any other expression of joy!

So, Spys, MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope you have a wonderful time with family and friends in this holiday season!

Peace <3
Jay
